For 2022, I vowed to take the time to read more books. I read a lot anyways, but I want to spend less time watching TV and more time reading. I have five bookcases full of books, and many of them I haven’t read yet. What’s that saying? “Too many books, too little time.” Time to catch up!
Books I’m reading right now:

“I want to bury myself in a den of books. I want to saturate myself with the elements of which they are made and breathe their atmosphere until I am of it.” ~ General Lew Wallace, 1885, author of Ben Hur.
To converse with the greats
by Vera Pavlova
To converse with the greats
by trying their blindfolds on;
to correspond with books
by rewriting them;
to edit holy edicts,
and at the midnight hour
to talk with the clock by tapping a wall
in the solitary confinement of the universe.

i am still her to tell
you about
hate to love
love to hate
curse the day of natality
blue hearted
self
and deny myself
words
and ten minutes
later you too will become
yet another me hater.

What humankind may need to suffer in order to survive the long term from ourselves is an even greater nemesis (a figurative multi-tentacled extraterrestrial, perhaps?) than our own politics and perceptions of differences — especially that of race — against which we could all unite, attack and defeat. During this needed human allegiance, we’d be forced to work closely side-by-side together and witness just how humanly similar we are to each other.
(Albeit, I have been told that one or more human parties might actually attempt to forge an allegiance with the ETs to better their own chances for survival, thus indicating that our wanting human condition may be even worse than I had originally thought.)
Still, maybe some five or more decades later when all traces of the nightmarish ET invasion are gone, we will inevitably revert to those same politics to which we humans seem so collectively hopelessly prone — including those of scale: the intercontinental, international, national, provincial or state, regional and municipal.

Wonderful! One of the great books to read as well is “The word of God – Bible”. 😉😉

You are absolutely right, Michael, and that is something to be read everyday.

A Treasury of Southern Folklore looks fascinating. Good luck on your reading.

It is interesting, but a long book, so it will take me a while to read it.

It sounds like my own new year’s solution, the only problem is, every year I make the same promise to myself and having a “book addiction” and too much curiosity makes the situation worse.
So for 2022, the solution might be no more books, read what you have got first! But then again, every booklover understands, browsing for hours in a bookshop is one of the great pleasures in life! Happy New Year

And there are getting to be fewer book stores to browse in – at least, in my area. It’s something I miss very much. Happy New Year to you, as well!

What an interesting list, I wish you the time and energy to read it with enjoyment.
I wish the days back when I could get lost in a book, not being able to put it down, thinking about it when I didn’t read. But back then I didn’t have so many books, expensive, hard to get, etc. Ebooks are great, but also a bit overwhelming. My Elibrary is huge, but I’m turning into a hamster, not so much a reader any more. 🙂 I plan to read more, too, but only if it’s fun (and find myself rereading old favourites).
