I want to thank Barbara Harris Leonhard and the staff at Masticadores USA for publishing my poem, “Where Shall We Go.” I cannot express enough how much I appreciate it! Please support them by visiting and “liking” what they have to offer. Thank you!

Where shall we go since the old home place is gone?

Mama’s gone, and papa’s gone;

All the little children have long-since grown

And live in the city with children of their own.

Tell me, where shall we go

For birthdays and Christmas and Sunday stew?

Grandma is gone; the recipe she knew

For blueberry pie is lost now, too.

What shall we do?

The old home place is vanished now,

No longer fields will feel the plow

Or hands reach into the apple tree.

Old Brutus is gone. But what about we?

The old home place lives in our hearts,

With memories of quilting arts

And canning beans fresh from the vine

And laundry hanging from the line.

Summer’s fun and winter’s sleep

Remembered in our hearts so deep,

The pictures glow and come alive –

Fond memories of the family hive

That buzzed and blustered all year round

This is a beautiful piece indeed Dawn and makes me think of when we were little and mom in the kitchen baking. It also brings up memories of her mother and the wrinkly hands that my grandmother had. I was amazed by it as a child and touched her hands. This was indeed a beautiful publication Dawn. Blessings to you and glad we get to read you on Masticadores. Big hugs and love, Joni

    • You’re so kind, Joni! It reminds me of my grandmother, too, who always baked fresh bread and gave us real butter whenever we visited. Good times. Thanks for visiting and commenting!
