First Snow

The first white snow of winter

Falls softly on the ground;

The world looks like a fairy land

With snowflakes all around;

The trees dress up like fairies

Dancing on the snow: —

Magic happens everywhere

The fairies dance, you know.

I love the first white winter storm,

The air is cold and frosty;

I stay indoors where it is warm,

But through the windows I can see

How suddenly the world turns white

And disappears beneath the snow;

The season changes overnight

From autumn’s bright to winter’s glow.

    Beautiful poem, Dawn. But what is snow? We live in Savannah.

  2. What better a gift for a mother’s child in anticipation of Frosty the Snowman and Christmas coming; when all will be so festive and joyful that the Lord has come and Jolly Santa with his Reindeer led by Rudolph will make his arrival on that so special night! O Holy Night!

    • Thank you, Lawrence, my daughter was born a week before Christmas, so it’s always a special time for us. Have a great day!

      • That cinched it to get that final bit of information puts it all into a glorious perspective now, doesn’t it!!!

        And I wish you all as special a time this Christmas as the many previous since Ariel’s special appointed time; such a blessing it was and is! Amen.
        Have a Great day Too!

    • And also to you! Isn’t it exciting? And, hopefully, 2022 will see a lot of positive changes that will bring the country back to normal.

      • Well Absolutely and I can hardly contain myself at times but with so many distractions trying to trip me up it’s a blessing to still be intact and in one piece!
        All kidding aside “we can only Hope and Pray that Great Positive Change is on the Way” and maybe this Christmas will usher it in! We look above for a sign knowing it’s all in His hands, and that’s just fine!

    Merry Christmas from all over Texas (that would be Frohe Weihnachten in New Braunfels, Feliz Navidad in the Valley, and Joyuex Noel at the Cajun/Texan interface).

    By the way, regarding the illustration, do people carry umbrellas for snow?

  6. Beautiful poem Dawn. 🙏🏼 Such a sweet and endearing show of love, wonder, and discovery that you saw in your daughter’s eyes. It isn’t snowing where you are is it? 🌨❄☃ I enjoyed your heartwarming, maternal embrace so reflective in your words. Have a FANtabulous day sweetie! 🌞🥂💖

    • Thank you, Kym, you have such a wonderful way of expressing things! No, it’s not snowing here, but it does snow sometimes, and the last three years we have gotten more snow than the last 30 years. And it’s been sticking around instead of melting in a few hours. I always carry snow shovels in my car because most people don’t have them around here. Have a Blessed Day!

    Wonderfully put, I can feel myself sipping a heaping hot chocolate…gazing at the first white snow outside the window. Well done!
