I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has supported my writing journey, followed my blog, bought and read my first poetry book, Ariel’s Song: Published Poems, 1987 – 2023, helped me with the book launch, promoted it, re-blogged my posts, written reviews, conducted interviews, provided promotional photos, offered self-publishing and marketing advice, shared their experiences, and wished me well along the way.
The Minotaur Dreams of Ariadne by David Milligan-Croft (2024). Available on Amazon Kindle at https://a.co/d/3XuCjrQ.
When David released his latest haiku Ebook, I was captivated by the title and cover art and felt compelled to read it. He’s a prolific writer whose poetry I’ve savored before on WordPress, so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed.
Each haiku contains golden nuggets of beauty and wisdom that stimulated my imagination and played on my sensibilities. For instance, while most people dream of heaven as a shining city with streets paved with gold, David envisions a paradise lined with cherry trees—and it works! Paradise could easily be found beneath the blossoms of cherry trees.
“The avenues of
Heaven, are surely lined, with
Cherry blossom trees”

Indulge yourself in the exquisite imagery of this little gem:
“A rose petal falls
Beneath an August sunset,
Like a velvet tear”
He perfectly captures an ordinary sunset’s beauty, color, texture, and sadness in a few carefully chosen words. If you’re a haiku fanatic, this engaging collection is a must-read.
I was pleasantly surprised this morning when poet Lauren Scott notified me that she had posted a review of my book on her website. I thank her from the bottom of my heart. I feel honored and touched by her generosity. Thank you, Lauren, for your beautiful and humbling review!
“Ariel’s Song by Dawn Pisturino is a beautiful and evocative collection of sixty-five poems – a collection that she lovingly dedicates to her daughter whose name is Ariel. The poems were written over a period of three decades touching on topics of love, family, children, death, nature, and the unique. Some rhyme and others are free in their styles from traditional sonnets that invited me to contemplate, to twisted limericks that made me laugh. I had many favorites, but I’m sharing snippets from a few, otherwise, this review would turn into a novel. . .”
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12th, and books make perfect gifts!

I was so touched this morning to find out that Thomas Wikman, author of The Life and Times of Le Bronco von der Lowenhohle (Amazon link https://a.co/d/6M2SdtH), had written a review of my first poetry book. Thomas is a dog lover who writes about his experiences with his Leonberger, Bronco, and the other dogs who form a part of his family. His blog is a delightful read, and I highly recommend it.
Please go HERE to read his touching review and to learn more about Leonbergers – a breed I had never heard of until I discovered his blog.
Have a beautiful weekend!

Walmart isn’t the first place I think of to buy books, but what the heck! Anything is worth a try, right? My husband and I like to browse Barnes & Noble when we go to Henderson/Las Vegas. I buy books on Amazon, too. In Flagstaff, I like to visit Barnes & Noble and Bookman’s Used Books.
Where do you enjoy browsing and buying books?

With National Poetry Month in full swing, I’m pleased to share that my first poetry book, Ariel’s Song: Published Poems, 1987 – 2023, is now available in paperback on Barnes & Noble.
My first poetry book, Ariel’s Song: Published Poems, 1987 – 2023, is now available in paperback on Amazon!
Two vendors are listed: Amazon and All Time Fans. I recommend ordering the paperback shipped from Amazon (the pre-order offer) because I don’t know anything about the All Time Fans vendor (they acquired the book from IngramSpark).
I was absolutely thrilled when poet Selma Martin informed me today that she had left her review of my first poetry book, Ariel’s Song: Published Poems, 1987 – 2023, on Amazon and her website. Regrettably, Selma has just experienced a personal loss that touched her deeply, and I was not expecting anything. Our hearts are with you, Selma!

Book Review of Ariel’s Song: Published Poems, 1987-2023
Undergirded in a thread of tenderness the heart understands
Ariel’s Song: Published Poems, 1987-2023–In this definitive collection selected from published poems that have already received accolades, poet Dawn Pisturino presents a personal selection of her best work from three decades.
It warmed my heart to see that the author dedicates the book of brilliantly crafted verses to her daughter, Ariel: the collection isundergirded by a familiar thread of tenderness that soon endears one to this author.
In this 130+ page collection of 60 poems, there’s something for everyone in the various styles and themes: twisted limericks to make you laugh, traditional sonnets to make you think, love poems, dark poems, children’s poems, nature poems, and experimental poems.
The book launched on March 23, 2024, and I immediately received my digital copy. I would have reviewed the book right away if it hadn’t been for a family emergency that has kept me numb all this time.
What a gift this book is! for its ability to resonate and uplift with a delicate blend of words and symbolism that expertly balances nature and the human struggle. I found many instances that resonated deeply and I’m confident a few poems will do something similar for you. Some of my favorites are these:
“April Showers
I looked into the heavens
And saw the face of God.
He was a kindly gentleman
And not too very loud.
He wore a watch upon his vest
Which gave the time of day.
He looked at it: “The time has come,”
Was all he had to say.
And soon a gentle rainfall
Came from the April sky.
It kissed my wondering up-turned face
And poked me in the eye.
But then a very curious thing
Did happen at my feet.
A tiny flower sprouted up,
All blooming and complete.
It opened up its tiny leaves,
Embracing fast the rain,
And if I ever doubted God—I never did again.”
First published on Gobblers & Masticadores on April 8, 2023.
It looks like I finally uploaded a cover file that Ingram Spark likes. As soon as all the proofs are approved, they will distribute the paperback on Amazon, etc.
I also re-formatted and revised the Word doc for Draft2Digital. As soon as all the proofs are approved, the paperback will be widely available on Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc.
The paperback is currently available in the Lulu Bookstore.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
